The world has “never been in a better position” to end the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. But the UN health agency’s chief said on September 14, 2022, that amid the optimism, countries must still keep up efforts to fight the virus that has killed at least 6 million people around the world since it emerged in China in late 2019. The number of Covid-19 deaths during the week of September 5 was the lowest reported since March 2020, according to WHO officials, as they cautioned that there could still be more waves of infections ahead.
